MANY STEPS from Takayuki Akachi on Vimeo.

The latest story from our Made Of Japan initiative: Many Steps by Takayuki Akachi.
We asked Akachi-san to travel around the world and show us the many ways that steps, metaphorical and literal, unite us in a single, human experience. Akachi-san and his Mexicos went on several adventures that you can check out on his blog. The result of his worldwide journey was the film we’re proud to present you with today. “Many Steps” shows Akachi-san’s journey from beginning to end, in his unique “lone backpacker” style of film that features rhythmically edited visuals that show how humanity as a whole is united, not separated by our differences.
Without getting too meta, this was really a labour of love and a piece of work I’m extremely proud of, hopefully the passion and adventurousness of all involved shines through in the final product. Thanks again to Takayuki Akachi and his assistant Akiko in making this happen.

Family and Friends by Yoske Nishiumi from Onitsuka Tiger on Vimeo.

A wrap-up of our Family and Friends exhibit in Berlin last week, Koi Klub Founder/Curator/Onitsuka Tiger Collaborator Yoske Nishiumi talks us through the concept, how it came together and of course, having fun. Very inspiring.

The ASICS Europe team spent the week in Berlin for Fashion Week, where we not only appeared at the Bright and Bread and Butter Trade shows, but also gave a preview of our upcoming collaborations and high end collections at our now BiAnnual Family and Friends event. It was an incredible time, no shortage of meetings, but definitely no shortage of free alcohol. Thanks to Jack for the photos

Takayuki Akachi: World Tour

This year Onitsuka Tiger is going to be working with a group of talented and creative people all joined by their love of Japan. One of the ones I’m most excited about is Takayuki Akachi, the talented filmmaker behind the popular “Traveling Denim” piece that received so much attention last year. Akachi-san is currently traveling on a 50-city tour with his wonderful assistant Akiko to create a film around our iconic Mexico 66.
You can follow Akachi-san’s trip on his blog here or on twitter.

See you Wednesday January 19th, in Berlin

Kwon-TV Cribs

German Blog Art School Vets chose to feature our Sr. Manager of Product Marketing for Lifestyle in their Faces and Spaces feature series. Think MTV Cribs for cool people, with really dope photography instead of sped-up hallway sequences.
For those of you that don’t know who Kwon is, he’s one of the most important pieces in the ASICS/Onitsuka Tiger puzzle and has been behind some of the craziest sneakers of the last 10 years from the Adidas A-Z series and the recent drops we did with Slam Jam and Sneaker Freaker to the upcoming pieces we have with H**, P**** and H****.

Tsuri Conceptual Film

Tsuri Collection: Autumn/Winter 2010 by The Savants Collective from Onitsuka Tiger on Vimeo.

Onitsuka Tiger came together with the extremely talented Savants Collective to create this unique visual piece inspired by our Tsuri Collection.

Capturing the fading colours of autumn, the inspiration behind the Tsuri Autumn-Winter range comes from lake fishing in the mountains of Japan. Both apparel and footwear feature a multicoloured check pattern based on the ‘Katsuo’ pattern, which is inspired by the gradient stripes on the belly of a tuna fish. The pattern’s warm palette echoes the colour explosion of autumn trees.

Using a unique combination of mediums, Savants Collective was able to distill the meaning of the collection into this emotionally stirring, visually stunning short film that mixes 2d and 3d animation with Practical photography and a handmade miniature set.
