Photos from my trip to Salone Del Mobile in Milan this Saturday. My first trip to Italy, and my first visit to the world famous design festival. I was actually in town to research the festival’s affect on the city and its commercial culture, so I didn’t get to visit the tradeshow itself, but I was still able to take in some great exhibits around the Duomo area. Baccarat, Armani Casa, the Res Sapiens Project, Daniela Gerini, and Droog were the biggest highlights.
This was filmed by Spike Jonze, that’s not really important. I was so moved by this, the idea that people are finally beginning to understand that “high culture” comes from the streets is so inspiring. A lot of people were probably terrified by this idea when it was just an idea, but I doubt any of those people can deny what it became.
LightUp recently partnered with Black Apple and up and coming Cleveland based rapper Machine Gun Kelly to create a promotional music video for the brand’s latest season. Look out for this online and off.
I definitely underestimated Donnis when I first heard him, but the quality of the product has made me a believer and a fan. Look out for big things this summer…#spoileralert
The latest story from our Made Of Japan initiative: Many Steps by Takayuki Akachi.
We asked Akachi-san to travel around the world and show us the many ways that steps, metaphorical and literal, unite us in a single, human experience. Akachi-san and his Mexicos went on several adventures that you can check out on his blog. The result of his worldwide journey was the film we’re proud to present you with today. “Many Steps” shows Akachi-san’s journey from beginning to end, in his unique “lone backpacker” style of film that features rhythmically edited visuals that show how humanity as a whole is united, not separated by our differences.
Without getting too meta, this was really a labour of love and a piece of work I’m extremely proud of, hopefully the passion and adventurousness of all involved shines through in the final product. Thanks again to Takayuki Akachi and his assistant Akiko in making this happen.
I’m definitely not the biggest runner at ASICS, but when I do get out there and hit the pavement, I’m doing it in these joints. The flagship of our running fleet if you will, the Gel Kinsei 4 is the most technologically advanced running shoe on earth at the moment with a completely adaptive cushioning system that allows runners of any pronation to wear it effectively and comfortably.
Considering the amount of research packed into this shoe, I almost feel guilty wearing it.
