Mugabe and The White African is a documentary film produced by filmmakers Lucy Bailey and Andrew Thompson. The film documents the case of Mike Campbell, a 74-Year-old white Zimbabwean who filed a law suit against Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe in order to halt the confiscation of his farm during the controversial Land Reform project that began in the late 1990′s.
According to Rotten Tomatoes, Mugabe and the White African is one of the best reviewed films of 2010. That fact, and the film itself caused me to attempt to examine my own personal prejudices as pertains to Zimbabwe’s present economic and political situation. Read the rest of this entry »

Kush and OJ on repeat…

Found a Youtube channel filled with really technical in-depth analysis of the technique of some of the greats of the Classical Era of Boxing. Definitely worth a view for fight nerds like myself. The above video breaks down the science behind Charley Burley’s boxing style. One of the more enigmatic figures of the 1940′s golden era, Burley is considered the greatest fighter to never win a world title as greats like Sugar Ray Robinson and Billy Conn felt he was too elusive and too dangerous to fight.

And another one, I think in the States, no name is more synonymous with the Gel Lyte III. Interesting to see Ronnie Fieg brand himself as Tinker Hatfield x Mark Cuban.

Jesse Boykins III – Lauryn Hill/Erykah Badu Cover – The Mystery of Iniquity

Performer, Joker, Self-Proclaimed Conceptualiser, I truly consider Jesse as part of my family in New York, honestly one of the funniest people I know, as well as one of the most talented and driven. All personal bias aside, I really believe that as a songwriter, singer, musician and engineer, he’s one of the premier talents in music and I’m extremely proud to see that the work he and Woo have done over the past couple of years is starting to bear fruit and he’s beginning to get the recognition that he deserves.
The sky is the limit, just make sure you bring a stepping stool to the Grammys, that podium is pretty tall.

J. Cole – Bun B for President

J. Cole pays tribute to the recent 5-Mic recipient on a jazzy, smoothed-out, self-produced track.

“You know the residence/Dirty South Confederate/Hey we should hold elections/I say Bun B for President”

ASICS x 24Kilates Gel-Lyte Speed – Interview from ASICS on Vimeo.

Another Interview from Berlin Fashion Week. This time with Rickard and Pol of Barcelona-based sneaker boutique 24Kilates.

Light week of Blogging, new Kanye Video, directed by Marco Brambilla, the video is heavy with symbolism from ancient civilizations like Egypt and Greece. I think the most interesting symbol is the Sword of Damocles hanging above Kanye’s head, I’m not sure if there’s a more potent summary of Kanye’s career up to this point: the same reasons that we love him–outspoken passion, daring visuals, absurdly-high selfesteem–are the same things that could end his career at any moment. Unfortunately, I think a lot of people won’t be able to get past the girl with the devil horns. Full video below:

Reminds me of a New York summer, the Diplomat family is on a tear right now. The genius of Cam is that he really just does whatever the fuck he wants on a record…”I could do a DMX impression right now, yeah okay….”

Hattrick for the interviews, thanks to all three of these guys. You get a sense that this was a real collaborative effort, and I’m sure they had as much creating the sneaker as I had doing the interview. One thing I can’t forget is a special thank you to Ken-Tonio and Deniz for putting in overtime to make all of these pieces happen, there are many more to come.
