Took some time away from blogging due to ESC Madness, unfortunately I didn’t have a good enough camera or enough waivers to collect anything meaningful from that event. Wanted to share some heat that recently found its way onto my feet. Unreleased pair of ASICS GT:II’s designed by apparel designer Shuhei Numata. It’s a shame these never saw the light of day, the pink to blue gradient makes them laid back and daring simultaneously, and the soft white suede gives them an air of class not often seen on a running silhouette. One of my favourite pairs which is why they’ve only been worn twice, and a true one of one which is why you’ve probably never seen a pair before.

Even if converse is one of our competitors you couldn’t get me to pretend that they didn’t knock this out of the park. I think this is a really great example of a brand understanding and owning the concept of Authenticity. In a lifestyle space it’s something that everyone is searching for but it’s such a delicate virtue that the search for authenticity can often leave a brand looking foolish and out of touch. I’m sure Corporate Responsibility desk would love me to tell you that this was an ecofriendly sneaker coming out next year at Whole Foods locations world wide, but alas. French artist Djamel continued his series of cardboard sneakers with a makeup of our Gel Lyte III. The only materials he used to create the piece were regular crafts items and the ASICS box that the sneakers came in. More below

Another ASICS Gel Lyte III design by Ronnie Fieg. Big improvement from the Cultureshoq II’s in my opinion. I’m not quite sick of these yet.

And another one, I think in the States, no name is more synonymous with the Gel Lyte III. Interesting to see Ronnie Fieg brand himself as Tinker Hatfield x Mark Cuban.

Hattrick for the interviews, thanks to all three of these guys. You get a sense that this was a real collaborative effort, and I’m sure they had as much creating the sneaker as I had doing the interview. One thing I can’t forget is a special thank you to Ken-Tonio and Deniz for putting in overtime to make all of these pieces happen, there are many more to come.

Koi Koi – “Intense Love” x Onitsuka Tiger from Onitsuka Tiger on Vimeo.

Great interview that we did with Yoske of Koi Klub about the Koi Koi Lay-Up ’72′s which are now available online at SNS. Nice in depth look at the inspiration of the sneaker as well as his artistic inspiration in general. One thing about Yoske-san is that he is an artist in everything he does, and I think the interview brings across the humility, sincerity and creativity at the heart of his personality. The shoes are hot too.
