Welcome to the Imperial

Welcome To The Imperial – Lemon Andersen x Rik Cordero
A crowd sourced creative collaboration series by Lemon Andersen and Rik Cordero

Welcome To The Imperial” is a 1-minute viral video from Brooklyn born spoken word poet and actor, Lemon Andersen and Queens-bred filmmaker, Rik Cordero to the millions of New York City basketball fans. It features a mixture of Rik’s eye for iconic New York City sights and faces seamlessly combined with the richness of Lemon’s poetry. In essence, the Big Apple exerts a powerful influence over those who live here and those who play here. Welcome To The Imperial…

“…It represents two artists on their way to the throne. It’s Majestic. It’s us. Now when you hear “Welcome To The Imperial” you will hear our stamp.” – Lemon

“…What we’ve done only scratches the surface of what Lemon and I are capable of but ultimately we achieved our goal with Imperial: to visually capture the essence and magic and complexity of New York City.” – Rik

I don’t know if every song, film, poem, video or painting that has ever used it as a subject could capture the essence, magic and complexity of New York in its entirety…but this is dope though. Shoutout to my frat Kenji for the tip.

Jesse Boykins III – Lauryn Hill/Erykah Badu Cover – The Mystery of Iniquity

Performer, Joker, Self-Proclaimed Conceptualiser, I truly consider Jesse as part of my family in New York, honestly one of the funniest people I know, as well as one of the most talented and driven. All personal bias aside, I really believe that as a songwriter, singer, musician and engineer, he’s one of the premier talents in music and I’m extremely proud to see that the work he and Woo have done over the past couple of years is starting to bear fruit and he’s beginning to get the recognition that he deserves.
The sky is the limit, just make sure you bring a stepping stool to the Grammys, that podium is pretty tall.

LIGHT UP

Jesse, Woo, Bobby and Luduh...Light Up Family

Reminds me of a New York summer, the Diplomat family is on a tear right now. The genius of Cam is that he really just does whatever the fuck he wants on a record…”I could do a DMX impression right now, yeah okay….”

SLIIIIMMMEEE!

Sorry to be missing this, but if you are in NYC be sure to check out the New York Asian Film Festival at various locations in the city until July 8th.

Much love to Uncle Roger, Uncle John and the rest of WooArt/NYAFF for giving Light Up a storage closet office to work out of last year.

DIPSET! NEW SHIT!!

The Diplomats – Salute

Don’t usually do Saturdays, but I had to. Freaking out, these guys created too many classics together for me not to be hype as all hell
Salute from Cam, Jimmy and Juelz…the Triangle Offense is back.

Best line of the song isn’t even part of the song, but will be part of my daily vocabulary from now on: “You looking at me like ‘Schieß! They’re Back!’”
