I still lament the loss of this show, so many legendary moments and verses. This entire style of rap is more or less dead, I don’t get the feeling that rappers today write rhymes specifically to show out in forums like Rap City or the Mixshow Circuit.
I just love how looking at these clips shows you how many big personalities were running around the game in the late 90′s/early 2000′s. The fact that all of them were given the same assignment gave them all a chance to show how unique they were, from Fab’s bottomless well of laconically-delivered punchlines, to Eminem’s precise and unexpected strings of multiples to Twista’s compound speed raps that actually sound more complex when slowed down, there was just so much talent on display.
And let’s not even talk about fashion…#XXXLTallTeesFTMFW!!

I’m no stranger to the feeling of culture shock. As the son of a diplomat I moved across the world at a young age and I often found myself having to deal with norms, mores and attitudes that I found at times strange, unusual and sometimes offensive. Those seminal days taught me that cultural relativity wasn’t just a useful skill during intercultural exchanges, but sometimes also a survival mechanism.
