I would like to think that all of my endeavours are driven by passion, over necessity and curiosity over ennui. Hopefully this blog will not only give you insight not only to my passions, but hopefully ignite new passions within you. I feel like all of my passions are rooted in childhood memories–crying at the death of Optimus Prime, getting a pair of Reebok Shaqnosises to match my brother’s, being outraged that Lewis-Holyfield I ended in an unfair draw–thus I try to pursue them with a child’s reverence, that is buoyed by an adult’s cynicism.
Sees World
As the son of a Zimbabwean diplomat, I was allowed the opportunity to travel the world from a young age. Needless to say, growing up in 5 countries on 3 continents had a profound affect on my personality and outlook on life, giving me a worldview that I would describe as “culturally pliant.” With a diverse upbringing it goes without saying that I would find a comfortable home in New York City, which I consider my hometown and a constant source of inspiration. The richness of the culture, music, film, art, and history of my adoptive hometown can only be matched by the richness of the people that make up MY New York, the friends, frat brothers, partners, neighbours and mentors that have influenced, inspired and guided me throughout my time in the city.
Becomes Man
On March 3rd, 2010 I made one of the most important decisions of my life when I signed my contract to join the Digital Communications Team at ASICS Europe’s head office in Amsterdam. As the Webmaster for Product Management and Lifestyle, I am tasked with the Management, Production, Implementation and Maintenance of the online wings of ASICS’ European Region as well as our 60-year-old lifestyle brand, Onitsuka Tiger.
ASICS is the latest step in a young career that has also included a year and a half engagement at pLot Multimedia Developers LLC where I was Producer and later Associate Creative Director on a number of projects with a client list that includes Toyota, Pepsi, Alife and Mucinex to name a few.
While working at pLot I also founded a full-service film and video production company, Light Up Film, with two partners. Under that banner we produced a catalogue of low budget video projects that inluded music videos for artists like Jesse Boykins III and Serius Jones as well as commercial projects for New York-based clothing label Public School.
